It
is imperative that you find a coach that is an excellent
match for YOU. How do you go about this? Can you be sure?
These are all questions that surface as you begin to think
about taking the step towards hiring your coach.
My own experience of hiring coaches, and working in the
profession currently, have shown me the importance and the
value of first meeting with a coach and asking them specific
questions. You can meet with coaches in person, virtually
through email, and on the phone for a session. Be specific,
ask all the questions that will ensure that you find a creative
and unique coaching relationship.
Some questions to focus on:
What direct experience do you have regarding what I need
to accomplish or resolve?
Who else have you coached in a similar situation, and what
happened with them?
If I was a client, what is the type of strategies you would
offer regarding what I have explained thus far about my
situation?
What is your general philosophy or approach when it comes
to coaching a client?
What is your biggest strength, and why?
How will it help me?
What do you not do well, or not want to do with me as a
client?
Why?
What are you hearing in how I've presented my situation
or in how I am communicating with you? Any observations?
Any changes I could implement immediately?
Would you want to work with me?
Why?
How would we begin?
