Here we are at that time of year again that brings up mixed feelings for all
of us. It is a wonderful season of celebration for many cultures and
origins. Yet it can also become stressful based on trying to cram so much
into such a short period of time.
Often we try to do all our entertaining and celebrating in a mere few weeks.
It seems to me that the chaos can make us all forget the true joy and
blessings of the season.
As I enter into the season it feels important to me to set a standard of
peace and harmony. How can I make certain customs easier on my
family? What can I change, even if merely an attitude, to allow the season
to flow smoothly and with ease? Let me give thanks for who I have in
my life, and the wonderful things that are in my life.
Many family and friends read this newsletter. I thank you all for being
a part of my 'experience' in this lifetime. May we all celebrate together
in a quiet and respectful way throughout the holidays. It seems important
to notice and give thanks for all we have.
Whether you celebrate Ramadan, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah, the
Winter Solstice, or one of the world's other great traditions, notice how
good life is, and give thanks! Together, let us pray for peace, goodwill,
healing and honor among all peoples.
Have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends.

Revisit the Christmas Story
Due to poor weather, Mrs. Rosenberg, a fine Jewish matron,
from the Upper East Side, found herself stranded-late
one night at a fashionable southern resort
...one that did not, ordinarily, admit Jews.
When she inquired, at the Front Desk about a room, the
desk clerk, looked at his book and said, "Sorry,
no rooms. This hotel is full."
Suspicious, about his mind set, Mrs. Rosenberg said,
"I beg your pardon -- your sign says, you have vacancies."
The desk clerk stammered & said, curtly, "Mostly, I shouldn't
say this, but you know, we do not admit Jews.
Now, if you will try on the other side of town ..."
Mrs. Rosenberg stiffened, noticeably, & said,
"I'll have you know recently, I converted to your religion."
Sensing something, the desk clerk said, "Oh, yeah!?
Well, let me give you a little test! How was Jesus born?"
"That's easy" Mrs. Rosenberg replied, "He was born to a
virgin named Mary, in a little town called Bethlehem."
"Not Bad'!" replied, the clerk. "Tell me more."
Checking her memory, Mrs. Rosenberg said,
"He was born in a manger!"
"That's right," said the hotel clerk.
"And why was he born in a manger?"
Holding her head defiantly high, Mrs. Rosenberg, reared-back,
and said loudly for all to hear,
"Because, a Putz, like you, in the hotel, wouldn't
give a Jewish lady a room for the night!"

Even Muggles Can Learn
If we talk about success, we must talk about Harry Potter.
As you may know, as with so many situations, author Joanne (J.K.) Rowling's
success did not come quickly nor easily. And her biography is another in the
continuing life lessons in determination and persistence.
J.K. Rowling plotted out most of the Harry Potter books a decade ago when
she was stuck on a train. (Seven books are planned, one for each year Harry
is at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.)
She says she has written the last line of the last book, although not
everything in between.
Before Harry, Rowling moved to Portugal to teach English and wrote the first
chapters of the first book.
She married, had a child, and divorced. She moved to Scotland to be near her
sister and to get help from welfare for about a half a year. Finally, she
got a job teaching French.
J.K. Rowling went to cafes to write so she could be someplace warm. She
didn't have enough money to photocopy her first manuscript, so she created
a second copy by typing it again.
Three publishers turned it down before the first book sold.
Success comes from trying. Patience, tenacity and perseverance yield
results.
Difficulty and adversity can build strength and character. And once
overcome, the rewards can be sweet.
It requires magic and belief.
And even Muggles (people with no magical powers) can learn that.
Now that is Magical!

Coaching Point:
May you celebrate the season ahead with peace and harmony. Enjoy and
thrill in the magic of your traditions. Even more importantly celebrate the
magic of life in general!
